6th US-India Energy Partnership Summit
The sixth edition of the US-India Energy Partnership Summit themed "US-India: Past Cooperation, Future Strategies and New Opportunities" was held on September 21, 2015, on the heels of the Energy Dialogue between the Governments of USA and India. The Summit was an extension of those talks and focused at reviving and reaffirming ties between the two nations. The Summit was well-timed with Prime Minister Modi's visit to the US due a few days after the event with renewable energy scoring high on the agenda, and the two vibrant democracies poised to coin the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Summit comprised three focused thematic tracks - Improving the Efficiency of Energy Use; Renewable Energy & Financing Clean Energy; Carbon Capture, Commoditization and Utilization. The thematic tracks were followed by a High Level Corporate Dialogue that brought together leaders from industry as well as government and academia to discuss the role of business in sustainable development and furthering the energy partnership between the two countries. This Dialogue was followed by a Special Plenary session, during which Dr Ernest Moniz, United States Secretary of Energy, US Department of State delivered the valedictory address.
The Summit contributed to the wide-ranging and ever-expanding dialogue architecture that established a long-term framework for India-US engagement.
The presence of a range of dignitaries from various fields made the Summit an opportune occasion to review and define relations between US and India, the two vibrant democracies ahead of the coining of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The sixth edition of the Summit addressed various issues related to expanding the use of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency, clean coal technology and accelerating clean energy finance.
