the ultimate source of energy and vitality! The sun
is a symbol of hope in despair and joy in mind-numbing
drudgery. Bringing this very sunshine into the lives
of rural India, TERI Uttam Urja an umbrella brand developed
under the project on'Implementation of Renewable
Energy Technologies in rural India through NGOs',
funded by the India-Canada Environment Facility was
a milestone, achieving economic, environmental, and
social sustainability.

Renewable
Energy in the Sundarbans
The 54 islands that comprise the Sundarbans are, today,
highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
However, the success of the renewable energy programme,
which was initiated in the islands in the early 1990s,
has been so remarkable that the Sundarbans may be considered
a rather unique hub of stand-alone renewable energy
systems.

The
Indian Insurance Industry And Climate Change
Internationally, there is growing concern about the
rising trend in reported economic losses from natural
disasters. The Third Assessment Report of the IPCC (Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change) predicts an increase in climate
variability with more hot days, heat waves, and heavy
precipitation events, leading to intensified droughts,
floods, and tropical cyclones.

TERI's
technologies for sustainable development: Tomorrow's
solutions served today
Extensive research on industrialization in various parts
of the world reveals the critical role of technology
in economic development. But quite apart from being
a driver of growth in income, the impact of technology
on the wealth of natural resources, the state of the
environment, and the widening of economic disparities
has been profound.

Managing
Power Demand: A case study of the residential sector
in Delhi
Today, India is one of the fastest growing economies
of the world characterized by rapid urbanization and
growing consumer markets. This development has been
accompanied by increasing demand for energy to sustain
modern ways of living, placing tremendous strain on
the existing resources. Further, capacity augmentation
has not been able to keep pace with demand resulting
in energy and peak shortages in the country.
